John's practice covers all direct taxes, stamp duties and VAT. He has extensive experience of corporate transactions, including M&A (public, private, domestic and cross-border), group reorganisations, real estate transactions and corporate and asset finance.

He also advises on the tax structuring and other aspects of investment funds including REITS and property funds, investment trusts and other onshore and offshore funds investing in a wide range of asset classes.

Henderson investment trusts

Advised three Henderson-managed investment trusts on a liquidation scheme of arrangement allowing investors of the liquidating fund to choose to roll their investment in an efficient manner into two other investment trusts.

Schroder-managed property funds

Structuring and implementation of the £132 million acquisition by three Schroders-managed property funds of City Tower, Manchester as well as numerous other mandates for Schroders-managed funds including the £150 million acquisition of the Kings Mall shopping centre in Hammersmith and the conversion of Schroder Real Estate Investment Trust into a UK REIT.

SQN Asset Finance Income Fund

Advised on the structuring and launch of this investment fund specialising in asset finance and leasing investments. Regularly advise on the direct and indirect tax aspects of new investments for the fund, drawing on the tax group's breadth of experience in relation to leasing and asset finance.

Schroders Real Estate Investment Management

Tax efficient structuring and implementation of the £132 million acquisition by three Schroders-managed property funds of City Tower, Manchester as well as numerous other mandates for Schroders-managed funds including the £150 million acquisition of the Kings Mall shopping centre in Hammersmith and the conversion of Schroder Real Estate Investment Trust into a UK REIT.

P2P Global Investments

Structuring and launch of P2P Global Investments, the first UK investment trust specialising in investments in the peer to peer market lending sector.

Advising in relation to the tax aspects of Macquarie Group's acquisition of a European rolling stock leasing business from Lloyds Banking Group Plc.

BTG plc

Advising in relation to a £150 million underwritten "cash box placing" through the equity capital markets in order to part-fund a corporate acquisition.
