Laura is a managing associate in the employment team and has experience advising on all aspects of employment law, from HR support and strategic advice, to high profile court and tribunal claims. Clients value Laura’s direct, commercial approach as she works closely with them to effectively manage employee issues and disputes.

Laura advises clients across all sectors including retail, luxury goods, financial services, sport and life sciences, on employment law and HR strategy – from tailoring contracts and policies to advising on redundancies, misconduct, performance issues, negotiated exits, absence management, discrimination and board level appointments.  She also has experience advising on, and running, sensitive internal disciplinary and grievance investigations.

Laura has recently been involved in managing various high profile disputes, including acting for a group of executives in a multi-million dollar bonus claim and defending well-known brands in complex employment tribunal cases.

Laura has assisted financial services clients on the implementation of the Senior Manager and Certification Regime by drafting contract and policy updates, and advising on related issues involving disciplinary action, internal investigations and regulatory references. She also works closely with our data protection and employee incentives experts to advise clients on these specialist areas.

Laura advises on the employee aspects of asset and share sale transactions, and on the TUPE implications of multi-jurisdictional business sales and service outsourcing.

Laura delivers bespoke training to senior managers and HR teams, and hosts events for HR professionals to educate and share experiences.

Laura qualified in Scotland in 2014.

Advising a foreign bank on the exit of two FCA-regulated individuals involved in alleged misconduct, including working with regulatory colleagues on regulatory reference and reporting obligations.

Delivering behaviour in the workplace training to boards and senior managers of various financial institutions.

Employment documentation

Preparing and implementing employment contracts and policies for companies in the luxury brand, retail and financial services sectors.

Drafting and negotiating terms of board level appointments and exits for various high profile individuals in the sports and PR industries, involving complex restrictive covenants and share-related issues.

High profile litigation

Advising a group of senior employees in relation to a high profile, multi-million dollar dispute against a US insurance giant concerning unpaid bonuses, and advising companies and senior executives on claims related to leaver status (impacting their shares) and fraud allegations.

Managing employment tribunal cases involving claims for unfair dismissal, TUPE failures and discrimination, and defending a well-known client against a complex share-related claim from its former CEO.

Redundancies and restructures

Managing collective and individual redundancies for companies during site and stores closures and restructures, and advising a dance company on dancer redundancies.

Internal investigations

Assisting with the firm’s appointment as external investigator to various sensitive grievance and disciplinary investigations involving discrimination allegations, and co-ordinating clients’ outsourcing of such investigations to independent third parties.

Multi-jurisdictional advice

Advising various Plc’s on multi-jurisdictional restructuring and outsourcing projects, including co-ordinating advice from local counsel and assisting with strategy.

Senior Manager & Certification Regime

Assisting financial services clients on the implementation of the Senior Manager and Certification Regime by drafting contract and policy updates, and advising on related issues involving disciplinary action, internal investigations and regulatory references.

Absence management

Advising clients on managing sensitive employee absences, including occupational health intervention and disability discrimination risks.

Data protection

Advising companies on data subject access requests and fair processing of employee data, and how to limit potential damage.

Transactional support

Advising on the employment aspects of corporate and real estate transactions (both share and asset sales), including employee due diligence, reporting on potential liabilities and drafting transactional documentation.

Advising a US biotech company on the licence of diagnostic assets and rights worth $50 million, involving the coordination of multi-jurisdictional advice and advising on the management of TUPE-related risks.

Pharmaceutical company investigation

Assisted a global pharmaceutical company with its investigations into employee expense fraud and subsequent disciplinary action, including managing the appointment of a third party decision-maker.

Advising a luxury retail brand on collective redundancies and assisting a champagne brand with the re-location of its management services from London to elsewhere in Europe.

Advising on all aspects of its UK employment issues including drafting contractual documentation, and advising on disciplinaries, grievances, flexible working and subject access requests.
