With over 4 years' experience of shipping litigation in India and a practising solicitor of England and Wales since 2012, Rituparna specialises in dry shipping disputes, complex cross border ship finance enforcement and offshore construction.

Rituparna has a broad experience of charterparty and bills of lading disputes, including demurrage claims, cargo claims, unsafe port claims, bunker claims, speed and performance claims and arrest proceedings. Rituparna regularly acts for owners and charterers and their P&I clubs in London arbitrations and English High Court proceedings.

She has acted for owners and lenders in a number of shipbuilding and ship finance enforcement disputes, involving complex cross-border litigation. In the offshore sector, Rituparna advises contractors and operators on the drafting and negotiation of complex services, operating contracts and enforcement matters.

In addition to English law disputes, Rituparna also advises clients on disputes involving litigation and enforcement proceedings in India.

Charterparty disputes

Advising charterers on exceptions to laytime and demurrage clauses in LMAA arbitration.

Advising owners on nomination of berth and unsafety of port dispute.

Bills of lading disputes

Advising owners on a claim for contamination of petroleum products by charterers under bills of lading issued under an amended Asbatanvoy form charterparty.

Advising owners on a cargo shortage claim under bills of lading issued under an amended Sugar Charterparty 1999 form.

Bunker claims

Advising disponent owners on competing claims by head-owners, physical suppliers of bunkers and intermediate suppliers for unpaid bunkers.

Advising owners on arresting charterers' vessels to obtain security for claims under bunker supply contracts.

Shipbuilding

Acting for lenders under an assignment of shipbuilding contract dispute against the shipyard for breach of contract and non-delivery of two newbuild vessels.

Advising buyers on negotiating terms of a shipbuilding contract and corresponding refund guarantees with lenders and shipyard.

Offshore construction

Advising contractors on negotiating contract terms with operators for the conversion, installation and lease of a mobile offshore production unit.

Advising contractors on breach by operators under a services contract for a floating production unit.

Acting for disponent owners in a back-to-back unsafe port dispute in arbitration and successful settlement of a US$2.8 million claim with charterers and owners.

Acting for charterers in dispute against owners for breach and non-delivery of vessel under a charterparty.
