Elena is a specialist in ship finance. She advises international banks, lessors and shipping companies on high value ship finance transactions, with particular expertise in secured lending and finance leases.

Elena has extensive experience in all aspects of ship financing. She advises on secured loan facilities, leases, sale and purchase of vessels, debt restructuring and export credit agency (ECA)-backed lending. She also advises on green and sustainability-linked loans and offers bespoke legal documentation to meet her clients' requirements in that field.

Elena's clients include leading European banks and financial institutions as well as prominent Asian leasing companies active in the European market. Fluent in Chinese and strategically based in London, she acted for her clients in numerous cross-border transactions and is a trusted legal adviser.

Elena is qualified in England and Wales as well as Hong Kong. She is the author of an article on a financing technique known as warehousing, which was published in a major publication in the transportation sector.

French bank – ECA-backed loan to finance two liquefied gas carriers

Advised on a US$100 million loan facility made available by a syndicate led by a French bank to a Chinese oil and gas company to finance the construction of two liquefied gas carriers.

Norwegian bank – Loan to major Danish tanker company 

Advised on a US$400 million term loan and revolving credit facility made available by a syndicate of European banks, secured by 40 vessels.

The Export-Import Bank of China – Loan to Petrobras

Advised on a US$1 billion corporate loan to Brazil's state-run oil giant to finance the purchase of FPSO equipment from Chinese businesses.

Chinese bank – Loan to Chinese lessor

Advised on a loan facility made available by a Chinese bank to a Chinese lessor who entered into a sale and lease back transaction with a French container transportation and shipping company.

Chinese lessor - Leasing of four bulk carriers

Acted for a Chinese lessor in a sale and lease back transaction with a Bulgarian shipping company involving four new bulk carriers. The total value of the vessels exceeded US$100 million.

Chinese lessor – ECA-backed leasing of 16 vessels

Advised on the leasing of eight multipurpose carriers and eight container vessels to a German shipping company. The three transactions have a total finance value of more than US$210 million.

Chinese lessor – Warehousing of vessels previously owned by a distressed shipping company

Arranged for an orphan trust to be set up in the Cayman Islands to take over six ships and assisted with the sale of those ships to recover the debt when market condition was favourable.

International shipping company - Leasing of a RoRo Carrier

Acted for the lessee, a shipping company with a presence in Norway, England and Singapore in a sale and lease back transaction involving a RoRo Carrier.

Advising on eight syndicated loans aggregating US$156 million made available by Deutsche Bank AG and HSBC Bank plc to Star Bulk Carriers Corp. to finance the construction of ultramax bulk carriers, backed by Sinosure insurance.

Acting for a Chinese bank in a US$234 million loan to an African state-owned company to finance the construction of nine multipurpose carriers and product tankers, supported by a guarantee from the sovereign state and Sinosure insurance.

Advising a Korean shipyard on the assignment of receivables under a shipbuilding contract.

Acting for a Chinese bank in a US$170 million loan to the subsidiary of a shipbuilder to finance the construction of 26 anchor handling tug supply vessels and platform supply vessels, and a US$255 million loan to a French offshore oil and gas conglomerate to finance the delivery of those vessels.

Advised on a €600 million loan advanced by a syndicate of German banks to a high-net-worth individual to finance the construction of the fifth largest yacht of the world.

Advised on the financing and restructuring involving a yacht ordered by an international hospitality and leisure conglomerate to expand its business in the cruise sector.
