Catherine is an associate in our London finance group, with a focus on ship finance.  She has worked on a full range of finance transactions in the shipping sector.

Catherine was a banker before joining the legal profession and worked in Asia for many years. She is fluent in Chinese and English.

Catherine advises banks, financial institutions, leasing companies and owners in cross-border bilateral and syndicated loans, sale and leaseback transactions and ship sale and purchases of ship. She also has experience in portfolio transfers, disputes settlement, title and mortgage registrations and re-flagging in various jurisdictions.

Catherine's experience as a relationship manager in the shipping team of a leading bank in Hong Kong gives her insight into how the financial world works. Her experience with the bank also gives her knowledge in other general banking matters like international trade.

Catherine spent several years with our Hong Kong office before relocating to London. During her stay in Hong Kong, she worked closely with our other Asia offices or associated firms in Singapore, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Advising two major banks in China on a secured loan to four joint ventures between a leading Chinese ship owner and a leading Japanese transportation group to finance the purchase price of four liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels to be used in the Arctic Ocean.

Syndicated loan to finance 31 vessels

Advising Nordea Bank Abp on a US$533 million syndicated secured revolving credit facility provided to Teekday Tankers group to the refinancing of 31 vessels across two flag states.

Sale and leaseback transaction of one LNG vessel

Advising a Chinese leasing company on a sale and lease back transaction with an investment bank to finance the construction cost of one liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessel to be chartered to a world leading oil and gas company.

Container boxes financing

Advising a major bank in China in respect of a bilateral loan to a Chinese company specialises in containers leasing to re-finance the purchase cost of container boxes. The boxes are chartered to the borrower's parent by a standby charter.

Advising owner in an LNG re-financing 

Advising a Chinese leasing company (as owner and borrower) on a secured loan with two French banks to refinance four liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels.
