Timothy Cooke co-authors CIArb Guidance Note

Law firm Stephenson Harwood partner Timothy Cooke has co-authored the Guidance Note on Remote Dispute Resolution Proceedings, published by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).

The guidance note, which is intended to be broadly applicable to the current 2020 global health crisis and beyond, provides parties with the necessary tools and directions for conducting dispute proceedings in circumstance where parties are unable to meet physically.

Discussing the guidance note, Cooke said: “CIArb's Guidance Note on Remote Dispute Resolution Proceedings offers concise, practical advice to parties and neutrals considering remote hearings. It covers a broad range of technical, logistical, legal and procedural matters and concludes with a helpful checklist of items for consideration. The Guidance Note is an indispensable point of reference that will be of practical benefit for those planning a remote hearing.”

In March, Cooke conducted as sole arbitrator the first virtual hearing in conjunction with Maxwell Chambers in Singapore. More recently, he spoke about the experiences learned from that case and strategies for running an efficient virtual hearing, as part of Singapore International Arbitration Centre's international arbitration webinar series.
