Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has won the ‘Trust and Estates Litigation Team of the Year’ award at the Commercial Litigation and Arbitration Awards 2019.
The awards, which were held in London, showcase the most innovative and challenging cases being heard in the UK. They celebrate London’s status as one of the leading dispute resolution centres in the world by highlighting the depth of talent in the market.
The team won the award in recognition of a substantial victory for the team, led by partner Jenny McKeown, in a complex Privy Council litigation case: Gany Holdings (PTC) SA v Khan and others; Rangoonwala v Khan and others [2018] UKPC 21. The case set a precedent for the advancement of trust assets and clarifying existing law on trustee’s discretion and was the culmination of a dispute lasting many years across a number of jurisdictions.
