Stephenson Harwood commercial litigation partner Kamal Shah and associates Krystal Lee, Salah Malas and Afolarin Awosika have contributed a chapter to a guide to arbitration titled: 'International Arbitration Law & Practice: The Practitioner's Perspective', edited by Tolu Aderemi of Perchstone & Graeys.
The publication explores a range of topical issues in arbitration across Africa. International arbitration specialists Shah, Lee, Malas and Awosika authored the chapter titled 'The Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards: Through the African Looking-Glass', which provides an overview of international and national law on enforcement across Africa. In the analysis, the team examines the New York Convention, the arbitration framework of OHADA and the Riyadh Convention, as well as the procedure, limitation periods and timeframes for enforcing awards under the national laws of a number of African countries. They also consider challenges to the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards using recent, high-profile case studies involving African parties.
