Members of Stephenson Harwood were commissioned by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Academy of Law to author the Data Protection chapter in the latest edition of Laws of the DIFC - Volume 2 (Reissue).
The Laws of the DIFC – Volume 2 (Reissue), published by LexisNexis, is part of the series of official commentaries that were commissioned by the DIFC Academy of Law on the laws of the DIFC. Volume 2 provides an annotated overview of seven key DIFC laws, including the DIFC Data Protection Law.
Stephenson Harwood's cross-practice and cross-office team were first commissioned in 2017 to act as the lead authors of the same chapter. Since that time, the DIFC Data Protection Law has evolved significantly to bring it closer into line with globally accepted data protection principles, including the GDPR, and to ensure that the DIFC stays at the forefront of international best practice in this important area of law.
The team comprised London-based data protection partner Katie Hewson, senior associate Alison Llewellyn and associate Olivia Fraser, and Dubai-based employment partner Kiersten Lucas and senior associate Emily Aryeetey.
As a result of the team's contribution to the first edition of this publication, and this most recent update, the DIFC Academy and LexisNexis Middle East awarded the team the honorary title of 'Specialists in DIFC Data Protection Law'.
