Stephenson Harwood expands Southeast Asia presence with new office in Myanmar

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has confirmed plans to open a new office in Yangon, Myanmar, further expanding the firm's reach across Southeast Asia.

Stephenson Harwood's highly-regarded Myanmar practice has been advising a wide range of international and domestic clients for more than 20 years. This has included acting on some of the largest strategic market entries, commercial joint ventures and M&A, across a broad range of sectors.

"Stephenson Harwood is committed to Southeast Asia, and to growing our practice there. This year marks our twenty-first anniversary in Singapore, and the opening of our Yangon office demonstrates our commitment both to Myanmar, and to the region as a whole," said Sharon White, CEO, Stephenson Harwood. "It also marks an important step in our ambitious growth strategy."

"It is an exciting time to be working in Myanmar, and on Myanmar-related matters," said Tom Platts, lead partner of Stephenson Harwood's Myanmar practice. "Continuing domestic legal and regulatory reform, combined with political upheaval in the last decade, has rendered Myanmar a market of significant interest to our clients – particularly given the lifting of most global economic and trade sanctions regimes which were previously in place.

"Stephenson Harwood has been working in Myanmar for many years, and is well-known for its wide domestic and international client base, high-profile credentials and deep understanding of this changing market. We look forward to working with new and existing clients as they, like us, expand their footprint across Southeast Asia's most dynamic and talked about investment jurisdiction. We have brought together a fantastic team of experienced lawyers within Myanmar to assist us in doing so."

Stephenson Harwood opens in Myanmar on 1 September 2017, expanding the firm's presence in Asia to six offices and two associated offices.
