Stephenson Harwood expands financial services regulatory offering with arrival of William Robertson

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has strengthened its corporate practice with the arrival of William Robertson as a regulatory partner, based in its London office.

Robertson specialises in UK and European financial services regulation, with the majority of his work being non-contentious. He advises clients on regulatory issues relating to fund management, custody, capital requirements, wider corporate transactions, and ongoing compliance. He also provides technical support to clients during Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) enforcement actions, s.166 investigations, and insolvency procedures. He joins from Addleshaw Goddard.

“The regulatory landscape has changed profoundly in the last decade, following global regulatory reforms defined by the financial crisis,” said Tom Nicholls, head of corporate, Stephenson Harwood. “During that time, and alongside the growth of our funds and private equity capabilities, we’ve seen an increased demand from our clients to provide them with the support they need to navigate the complex regulatory matters they face. I’m excited to be welcoming back William to the firm – he’s an exceptional lawyer and his knowledge and experience are valuable additions to our corporate practice.”

Robertson returns to Stephenson Harwood, having previously worked as a senior associate in the corporate practice between 2016 and 2018.

Stephenson Harwood’s regulatory practice advises on the full range of regulatory requirements and risks to which financial institutions are exposed. It draws expertise and experience from across the firm to provide advice in areas including regulatory reporting, authorisation and approval applications, the implications of the senior managers regime, client assets regulation and all aspects of the Prudential Regulation Authority and FCA rulebooks.
