Stephenson Harwood appoints litigation partner

International law firm Stephenson Harwood has appointed Richard Wilmot as a litigation partner in its Hong Kong office. Richard joins from the Hong Kong office of Watson, Farley & Williams, where he led the Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice.

Richard advises and represents banks, buyers, trading and shipping companies on commodities, contractual and regulatory matters. He has particular expertise in contracts for the supply, transportation, sale and purchase, and storage of petroleum products, coal, LNG and LPG as well as in general commodities and, more recently, the trading of carbon credits. He represents clients in dispute resolution, litigation and arbitration, as well as expert determination and mediation.

Voon Keat Lai, Stephenson Harwood's Managing Partner of Greater China comments:

"We are pleased to welcome Richard to the firm. Dispute resolution is a key area for Stephenson Harwood internationally and we are seeing increased opportunities to advise on complex matters in China. While Richard will be focusing on contentious matters, he also has extensive experience in advising on a wide range of non-contentious commercial, insurance and finance matters. His ability to advise clients within a broader commercial remit will be a real boost to the firm’s Hong Kong offering."

Richard added: "As a firm Stephenson Harwood is an excellent fit for my expertise and I look forward to working with my new colleagues."

Richard joins Stephenson Harwood with associates Justin Gan, Chryseis Yu and Andrew Carpenter, who bring with them significant experience on working on high value complex contractual matters. They often work in the areas of insurance, climate change and specialised commodities. This new team complements and expands the current Hong Kong practice.
