Stephenson Harwood announces 2016 qualifying trainee retention rate

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has announced that it will retain 77% of its trainees who qualified in September 2016. Seven of the nine qualifying trainees were offered and accepted positions at the firm, all in the London office.

"English law underpins much of the international legal framework, and we continue to see an ongoing increase in the demand for English law qualified lawyers, not just in London but also in our offices internationally," said Neil Noble, partner and trainee principal at Stephenson Harwood. "Two of our March qualifiers have joined the firm's Dubai office, which is the first time that we have recruited English NQs to the region."

"As a firm, we are committed to supporting our people throughout their careers, enabling them to fulfil their potential. Our award-winning career development programme is designed with exactly this in mind. We made our highest ever number of internal partner promotions this year which reflects our commitment to fostering talent and promoting from within."

In March this year, the firm retained six of its seven qualifying trainees; the cumulative retention rate for both intakes is 81%. The firm has retained over 80% of qualifying lawyers in each of the past five years. The programme offers trainees international and client secondments, as well as a broad range of UK-based contentious and non-contentious seats.

The 2016 qualified lawyers join the following practices: commercial litigation, corporate, finance and marine and international trade.
