Stephenson Harwood advises on US$80 million Mitsui-led investment

Stephenson Harwood (Singapore) Alliance has advised Campana Group on a US$80 million investment round led by Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

Campana, which operates international terrestrial and submarine telecom networks across Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore, will use proceeds from the investment to complete its SIGMAR submarine cable, a 4-fibre pair system that will connect Campana's Thanlyin international gateway facility in Myanmar to Tuas in Singapore. The proceeds will also be used to rollout a diverse fibre backhaul in Yangon and Singapore via open access points of presence, install branching units for future subsea interconnection with cables from the Andaman Sea and Thailand, and to develop and accelerate the introduction of new products and services for cloud and B2B connectivity in the Myanmar market.

Dr Myo Ohn, CEO of Campana, said: "This investment represents a tremendous validation of Campana's business plan and Mitsui's strategic insight, relationships, and significant resources will play an important role in Campana's evolution. We really appreciate the expert advice and continued assistance of Tom, Mark, Ben, Su Wai and the rest of the Stephenson Harwood team."

The Stephenson Harwood (Singapore) Alliance team was led by corporate partner Tom Platts, who was assisted by associates Mark Stephens and Peiguan Cai from the firm's Singapore office, as well as Myanmar-based senior associate Ben Hickson and associates Su Wai Phyo and Than Aung.

The investment is the latest in a series of transactions for Campana over the past four years on which the Singapore corporate team has advised. Previous transactions have included investments by Thailand's Loxley Public Company Limited, Myanmar's Global Grand Trading Co., Ltd. and Malaysia's TIME dotCom Bhd.
