Stephenson Harwood advises on biggest charitable gift of 2015

International law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has advised property developer Samuel Tak Lee on the largest charitable donation given by a UK-based individual in 2015.
Mr Lee’s US$118 million gift to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) topped The Sunday Times Giving List, 2016
The donation is one of the largest in the Institution’s history and is being used to establish a 'real estate entrepreneurship lab' to promote social responsibility among entrepreneurs and academics in the real estate profession worldwide, with a particular focus on China.
The cross border team, which advised on all legal aspects of the gift, was led by London-based consultant Stephen Davis and partner Hugo Jenney, with support from partner Ian Devereux (Hong Kong), associate Kitty Horsey (London) and registered foreign lawyer Silvia On (Hong Kong).
