Registrar of LCIA-MIAC to join Stephenson Harwood

Duncan Bagshaw, the first Registrar of the LCIA-MIAC arbitration centre of Mauritius, is joining Stephenson Harwood as a senior lawyer in the international arbitration and Africa teams later this year.

For over three years, Duncan has been closely involved in the establishment and development of LCIA-MIAC, an arbitration centre for the African region which operates as a joint venture between the Government of Mauritius, the London Court of International Arbitration and the Mauritius International Arbitration Centre. The centre opened in October 2012 and this year won the Global Arbitration Review award for up-and-coming regional arbitral institution. In his role as Registrar, Duncan has gained considerable experience of the arbitration systems and practices of African jurisdictions.

Kamal Shah, head of the Africa Group at Stephenson Harwood, commented: "We are very pleased to welcome Duncan to the team. His success in establishing a strong arbitral platform in Mauritius has been impressive and his first-hand experience of arbitration in Africa is unique. He will be a valuable addition to our arbitration and Africa teams, both of which we are currently building."

Duncan qualified as a barrister of England and Wales in 2004. He speaks English and French and has also studied French law.
