Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has strengthened its asset finance capabilities with the arrival of partner Peter Theochari as a shipping and aviation finance expert within its maritime, trade and offshore (MTO) practice. He joins the firm in London.

Peter has significant experience advising a wide range of clients in the transportation sector, including banks, other financial institutions, and lessors. He advises primarily on the financing, leasing and trading of vessels, aircraft and other transportation assets, and has additional expertise in relation to the restructuring of financings of these assets.

"Since identifying transportation and trade as one of our five areas of focus, we have been actively pursuing opportunities to further strengthen our capabilities in this area," said Eifion Morris, chief executive, Stephenson Harwood. "Peter's expertise, which spans shipping and aviation finance, brings a new depth to our existing offering in this space and, on the back of a number of recent lateral partner hires and internal promotions across our transportation and trade teams, supports our strategic commitment to driving growth in this area."

"Stephenson Harwood has an enviable reputation for the strength of our asset finance capabilities," said Ian Mace, global head of maritime, trade and offshore finance at Stephenson Harwood. "Adding a lawyer of Peter's calibre, with his exceptional technical skill, will help us to continue supporting our clients who come to us for advice on their most complex and challenging mandates."

The award-winning Stephenson Harwood asset finance team has a long history of advising clients on a range of associated matters. With particular expertise in transportation – whether shipping, offshore, aviation, rail or bus – the team acts on financing and leasing transactions, portfolio management activities, acquisitions and disposals.
