Stephenson Harwood partner Kamal Shah, along with Dr Emilia Onyema of SOAS University of London and Dr Stuart Dutson of Simmons & Simmons, has published the text of the ‘African Promise’.
The African Promise, which is modelled on the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge, seeks to tackle the under-representation of Africans on international arbitral tribunals, especially in arbitrations connected with Africa, and improve the profile of African arbitrators. It establishes concrete and actionable steps that the international arbitration community can take towards achieving these general objectives.
Shah, head of Stephenson Harwood's Africa practice, specialises in complex, cross-border international arbitration, litigation, and fraud and asset tracing in Africa and India. He acts for governments, government entities, banks, private corporations and high net worth individuals in a range of matters.
