Partner George Cyriac joins SVCA’s ESG committee

Stephenson Harwood (Singapore) Alliance partner George Cyriac has joined the environmental, social and governance (ESG) committee of the Singapore Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (SVCA).

The SVCA was formed in 1992 to promote the development of the private equity and venture capital industry in Singapore and Southeast Asia. There has been an increasing focus by global and Asian asset managers on sustainable investing, taking into account factors including responses to climate change, gender and diversity in the workforce, labour standards, bribery and corruption, and corporate governance. The ESG committee’s objective is to support asset managers in developing frameworks for evaluating ESG risks as part of investment processes and decision-making, developing reporting standards, and engaging in advocacy on behalf of asset managers in the context of the evolving regulatory landscape.

“The rise of sustainable investing is indicative of how markets and societies are evolving, and investors now have the opportunity to drive change, which many of them already are,” said Cyriac, partner, Stephenson Harwood (Singapore) Alliance. “I am very pleased to join SVCA’s ESG committee, and look forward to actively contributing to its initiatives to support fund managers in this increasingly vital area.”

Cyriac is a corporate and private equity partner based in Singapore and Jakarta. He has more than 20 years of experience advising on complex cross-border corporate and restructuring transactions across several jurisdictions in Asia – including Indonesia, Vietnam, India, the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia – and in New York.
