Maritime expert Menelaus Kouzoupis joins Stephenson Harwood as partner

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has strengthened its renowned marine and international trade (MIT) practice with the addition of Menelaus Kouzoupis as partner.

Kouzoupis specialises in international commercial dispute resolution, with a focus predominantly on dry shipping, trade and energy. His clients range from ship owners, banks and traders to mining houses and energy companies. He also has notable experience in complex cross-border insolvencies. Kouzoupis joins the firm's London office from HFW.

“The MIT practice is a core facet of Stephenson Harwood, and an area in which we are internationally recognised,” said Mike Phillips, head of marine and international trade, Stephenson Harwood. “Menelaus' arrival enables us to continue to build our market leading practice. His particular experience working with shipowners and P&I Clubs, especially in the Greek market, perfectly complements the established practice of our current team, and will allow us to further strengthen this key area.”

The Stephenson Harwood MIT practice offers services to clients in the shipping, offshore and commodity sectors. Clients include many of the world's largest shipowners, shipyards, major ship finance banks, marine insurers and IG P&I clubs, energy services companies, oil and gas companies and commodities traders. In 2017, the firm received the 'Maritime Law Award' at the Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia, the 'Maritime Law Award' at the Lloyd's List Global Awards, 'International Shipping & Aviation Firm of the Year' at the China Law & Practice Awards, and 'Transport Law Firm of the Year' at the Legal 500 UK Awards.
