Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has strengthened its decarbonisation practice with the arrival of nuclear consultant Gareth Davies. Gareth will be based in the firm's London office.

An experienced lawyer, with 20 years' nuclear sector commercial experience, Gareth advises domestic and overseas nuclear clients and has worked with most UK licensed sites. Having started on-site at Imperial College’s Reactor, Gareth now co-owns a nuclear M&A consultancy, and sits on various Boards advising on strategy, governance and growth.

"As set out in the UK Government's British Energy Security Strategy, nuclear energy will play a key role in the UK's clean energy transition," said Jonathan Cripps, projects partner and head of decarbonisation, Stephenson Harwood. "Our nuclear team is an important part of Stephenson Harwood's wider decarbonisation practice, and Gareth's detailed understanding of the nuclear sector and supply chain, combined with his UK/ France nuclear M&A expertise, enhances our nuclear capabilities, so we are best placed to advise clients."

Aside from legal work, Gareth chairs the DIT/NIA International Group, is involved in the SME and diversity agendas and recently led the incorporation of Women in Nuclear UK Ltd. Gareth is Secretary to Inclusion and Diversity in Nuclear Ltd, a Trustee of the Nuclear Institute, Honorary Secretary to WNTI and a Director of the Wales Nuclear Forum.

With a keen interest in mentoring, Gareth established the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority SME mentoring scheme and works with universities to encourage and mentor students entering the nuclear sector.
