Data Protection update - March 2015

In this issue, we summarise the recent legislative changes relating to enforced subject access requests. We also look at the European Parliament’s recent vote, signalling progress for data protection reform and discuss a recent High Court judgement against Facebook.

In our cyber security section, we consider a cyber security bill passed this month in the U.S.A.. We also consider the recent cyber-attack on Premera Blue Cross, as well as possible China military involvement in a cyber-attack on Register.com. Further, we look at a recent cyber-security publication on data security laws and policies across the EU Member States. We also consider recent calls to the Government to set up a taxpayer-backed fund to compensate companies hit by cyber attacks, as well as outlining a new Government report on cyber risk insurance.

Finally, we continue to keep you up to date with the latest enforcement activity of the ICO, as well as looking at the ICO’s Corporate Plan, setting out its priorities for 2015 to 2018.
