Data Protection update - February 2015

Welcome to the February 2015 edition of our Data Protection update, our monthly bulletin on key developments in data protection law.

In this issue, we summarise the Google Advisory Council's final report, as well as the Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner's guidance on cross-border data transfers. We also look at Microsoft's adoption of the world's first international standard for cloud privacy.

We discuss the concerns raised by Facebook's new privacy policy, and the Article 29 Working Party's letter on the use of health data in mobile applications. In addition, we update you on the latest data protection legislative developments around the world.

In our cyber security section, we consider the UK's efforts to recruit cybersecurity experts and the government's new guidance on cybersecurity. Further, we update you on the Anthem cyber-attack as well as global cyber legislative developments.

Finally, we continue to keep you up to date with the latest enforcement activity of the ICO, and consider the changes to the threshold for nuisance calls and text messages. We also look at the ICO privacy seal, the ICO's new power to audit the NHS and its report on community healthcare providers.
