Axel Koelsch joins Stephenson Harwood as chief operating officer

Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP has announced the appointment of Axel Koelsch as the firm’s chief operating officer. Koelsch joins as a member of the firm’s global leadership team.

“Axel brings an enviable pedigree,” said Eifion Morris, CEO, Stephenson Harwood. “Not only does he have a proven track record in the legal sector, he brings valuable experience as a management consultant.

“Our firm has grown considerably in the last ten years, contributing to our success. During that time we’ve invested in our business services teams and focused on the delivery of effective and efficient support. As we continue to look at ways in which we can enhance our operating platform to support our current - and future - business, Axel brings a valuable perspective on operational excellence.”

Koelsch brings significant level experience, which includes roles at Freshfields, Hogan Lovells and Linklaters. He joins Stephenson Harwood from Addleshaw Goddard where he was chief operating officer and head of the firm’s alternative legal services.

He will take a leading role in ensuring that the firm’s business continues to develop with momentum as a modern, forward thinking and dynamic professional services firm, by bringing clarity around operational implementation and, increasingly, transformation and innovation.

Koelsch succeeds Clive Ruse, who, after 21 years at the firm, will be retiring later in 2021.
