On 1 August 2022 most of the provisions of the Economic (Transparency and Enforcement) Act 2022 ("ECTEA") relating to the registration of overseas entities came into force and the new Register of Overseas Entities was formally launched at Companies House.
On 5 September 2022 the provisions of ECTEA relating to land ownership and registration become operative.
As this article explains, the new land registration rules which ECTEA introduces will impact on mortgages over freehold land or leases of seven years or more which are, or have been, granted by an "overseas entity".
