UAE Labour Law – February 2022

Following on from our podcast on the top 50 changes brought in by the new UAE Labour Law, we bring you the second part of our mini-series of the burning questions that employers are facing as the 2 February 2022 implementation date of the new law approaches.

In this second alert, we’ve focused on questions related to working time and arrangements.

  1. If we adopt (or have adopted) a Monday-to-Friday working week, how should we manage rest breaks, prayer breaks, and working hours on a Friday?
  2. Do employers have to give employees the right to work flexibly?
  3. Can employees save up breaks to shorten working days or working weeks?
  4. Who is now entitled to overtime under the new UAE Labour Law and how is it calculated?
  5. Are employees still entitled to nursing breaks?
  6. Do we have to give paid study leave?
  7. Are employees still entitled to Hajj leave?
  8. Should we still reduce working hours during Ramadan?
  9. How much maternity and parental leave are employees entitled to?
  10. Should we introduce a bereavement leave policy?
