Worldwide, 2021 saw the highest number of high value and complex deals together with a surge of certain types of structure of deals (e.g. SPACs) in particular sectors (e.g. technology), reflecting a change in business models as a result of the pandemic and a cultural shift to investment. Despite the disruption that has transpired at the start of 2022, investment into the UK remains attractive for many investors with many deals involving an international element.
Stephenson Harwood's M&A specialists are joined by economist, Trevor Williams (the former chief economist at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking), as they explore latest M&A trends and what to expect in 2022 and beyond, considering how companies will manage with so much debt against the backdrop of an increase in borrowing costs due to inflation, potential tax changes, increases in energy prices, political instability in Russia/Ukraine, the winding down of Covid-19 financial support packages and more generally global supply chain issues and worker shortages.
