Sophie is a dispute resolution associate in the firm's Dubai office. She has a broad range of litigation experience, acting for clients in the construction, shipping and commodities sectors in multi-jurisdictional litigation and international arbitration proceedings.

Sophie has significant experience in advising clients based in the Middle East region and assisting in large-scale disputes based in the UAE.

Following her relocation to the firm's Dubai office in 2020, she has built up a wealth of experience in assisting clients in international arbitration proceedings brought in the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), DIFC-LCIA and London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA).

In addition to representing clients in the UAE Courts and Dubai International Financial Centre Courts, she has represented companies seeking to obtain injunctive relief in the English Courts and has experience in representing and defending clients in committal proceedings before the High Court of England and Wales.

Sophie also regularly advises clients on trade sanctions from a compliance and due diligence perspective.

Acting for a Korean shipbuilder as the Claimant in an ICC arbitration in respect of an EPCIC shipbuilding dispute, which was valued at circa US$150 million.

Commodities dispute

Acting for an Omani oil and gas trader as the Claimant in a circa US$2.5 million DIFC-LCIA dispute concerning outstanding sums owed under a sale contract for fuel oil.

Construction dispute

Defending a local port authority in an ICC arbitration concerning the performance of a contractual agreement for dredging works.

Representing a ship recycling company as the Claimant in a LMAA arbitration against a ship owner concerning the termination of a memorandum of agreement.

Representing an individual as the Claimant in a DIAC arbitration concerning a shareholder dispute, which resulted in the settlement of AED 15,000,000 in favour of our client.

Debt recovery

Advising an international bank on the recovery of a facility worth US$40 million against a debtor in the DIFC Courts and the enforcement of guarantees against corporate and personal guarantors in the Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi Courts.

Injunctive and committal proceedings

Assisting an oil and gas company in connection with an application for a worldwide freezing order against a debtor in the English High Court, which was successfully granted, and committal proceedings in which the opposing party (i.e. the debtor) was found to be in contempt of court.
