Sebastian specialises in cross-border banking and asset finance with a strong focus on ship financing and project finance. He has acted for banks and owners in complex finance and restructuring transactions across multiple jurisdictions.

Sebastian’s area of practice covers a full range of maritime transactional matters including debt financings, leasing, joint ventures, debt restructuring and work-outs and security enforcement. He also has experience in trade finance, acquisition finance and corporate finance, including revolving credit facilities and guarantee and letter of credit facilities.

Sebastian regularly advises buyers and sellers on ship sale and purchase transactions. He has also advised on distressed financings and security enforcement, including private and judicial sales of mortgaged vessels.

Sebastian frequently acts for clients in Germany, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, Taiwan, Indonesia and Singapore and has extensive experience dealing with international maritime authorities/registries and correspondent counsels.

Seacor Marine

Advised Seacor Marine on the innovative joint venture with the world’s largest ship owner, COSCO Shipping Group, on COSCO’s first ever joint venture, the purchase of 10 PSVs from a COSCO shipyard and structured deferred payment terms.

Indonesia LNG project

Acted for an Indonesian shipping company in the joint venture with a major Japanese shipping company for the storage and transport of LNG.

Real estate

Acted for a Chinese real estate group in a joint venture with a Singapore company in the business of leasing co-working spaces in Asia. Advised the client in the joint venture to expand the target’s business in China.

KMARIN

Advised NAB, BNPP and SMTB as lenders’ counsel in connection with three separate facilities for the financing of four LNG carriers to be owned by Korean owners and chartered to an oil major on long-term charters. The loan was structured on a project financing basis.

MISC

Advised MISC as borrower’s counsel on the financing of two LNG carrier newbuilds which were chartered to Petronas.

Refinancing

Acted as lender’s counsel for a Taiwanese financial institution in a US$110 million term loan facility to a shipping entity which was granted a court moratorium in pursuance of restructuring.

Debt restructuring and transfer of agency and security agency

Acted for a German bank in the debt restructuring of several facilities to companies within a Hong Kong borrower group and the transfer of commitments, agency and security trustee functions from another German transferor bank.

Acted as lender’s counsel for a Taiwanese financial institution in a US$110 million term loan facility to a shipping entity which was granted a court moratorium in pursuance of restructuring.
