Nicola is a senior associate specialising in high-value complex and multi-jurisdictional litigation, with a focus on civil fraud. She has experience of freezing injunctions, search orders and third party disclosure orders. Most of Nicola’s work involves high value, complex cross border matters, and she has worked on three of The Lawyer magazine's annual Top 20 Cases in the last six years.

Nicola acts for claimants and defendants, and has experience of dealing with civil fraud claims with parallel proceedings (abroad and in the criminal justice system).  Her focus is fraud litigation but she also has experience in insolvency litigation (acting both for and against office holders) and insurance litigation. Nicola's clients range from corporates including FTSE 100 companies, banks, insolvency practitioners to high net worth individuals.

Nicola’s practice and clients are international, and she has also spent time working in Hong Kong.

Nicola has experience of appellate litigation, having taken cases to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Nicola has full rights of audience in the higher courts of England and Wales.

  • Fraud and asset recovery

Dar Al Arkan Real Estate Co v Al Refai & Others

Acting for the claimants in a $1 billion action in the Commercial Court involving allegations of conspiracy, breach of confidence and corporate misfeasance. There were related committal proceedings.

A UK company

Pursued fraud claims worth £2 million against a former employee which involved seeking injunctive relief and liaising with the criminal authorities.

International fraud claim

Representing a defendant to a £1 billion+ fraud claim by a sovereign state in multi-party proceedings in the Commercial Court in London, with related civil and criminal proceedings in multiple other jurisdictions.

Directors of a company

Representing the directors of a company in defending a $1 billion+ fraud claim brought in the Commercial Court in London, with multiple  parallel and injunctive proceedings in other jurisdictions.

A trading company

Representing a third party affected by a freezing injunction, in seeking to vary the freezing order and seek damages as a consequence of it.
