He is qualified in England and Wales and is a registered legal consultant in the United Arab Emirates.
Mazin provides advice to owners, charterers and sub charterers on their rights and obligations under charterparties and in disputes relating to unpaid hire, demurrage, exercise of lien, additional war risks premiums, engine breakdowns, and force majeure. He also represents International Group P&I Clubs in cases involving vessel abandonment, cargo misdelivery and other shipping related issues.
He has significant experience representing international shipowners regarding limitation of liability throughout his career and was a member of the team who successfully obtained a landmark decision before the Dubai World Tribunal. This was the first reported case in the UAE, acknowledging a shipowners ability to establish a limitation fund before the UAE courts.
He has extensive experience prosecuting and defending claims in the UAE local courts at all levels, as well as acting in arbitrations under the LMAA and DIFC-LCIA rules (prior to its amalgamation into the Dubai International Arbitration Centre).
