Justine has a broad disputes practice, having been involved in several complex, high value, multi-jurisdictional commercial, insurance and maritime disputes in the London Commercial and Admiralty Courts, as well as regularly assisting her clients appearing before arbitration tribunals. Justine also assists her clients involved in international trade navigate sanctions issues.

Justine's experience includes acting for market-leading traders, ship owners, ship builders, charterers and corporates (including supermarkets and mobile phone technology companies) under the HKIAC, LCIA and LMAA arbitration regimes in jurisdictions across Asia and Europe, and in the English Courts. She works on a wide variety of matters including disputes in respect to sale and purchase agreements, product quality control, charterparties, bills of lading, commodities, ship building contracts and insolvency proceedings.

Prior to commencing her training in London, she worked in immigration for the British Government in Beijing. She can speak and read Mandarin at HSK3 level.

Acting for Singapore and Hong Kong based ship owners in a US$6 million dispute in the English High Court against New Zealand based Charterers under a charterparty, for loss and damage arising from the delivery of cargo in India without production of original bills of lading pursuant to charterers' instructions.

Acting for Singapore based charterers in a US$4.2 million hire payment dispute with Hong Kong owners analysing whether charterers were entitled to refuse to pay hire due to COVID-19 related delays arising out a visit to Philippines on charterers’ instructions during which crew members contracted COVID-19.

Acting for the claimant (a state owned Middle Eastern company) in a US$41.5 million complex insurance claim involving an oil tanker that was hijacked by armed militants based in Europe.

Acting for the defendant (an insurance company based in Lebanon) in a US$30 million political violence insurance claim in respect to damage caused to property in Syria during the Syrian war.

Acting for the claimant in a multi-million dollar marine insurance claim against underwriters pursuant to a mortgagee interest insurance policy.

Acted for the defendant in a fraud claim where our client was accused of underpaying remuneration and pension contributions for 20 years. Claim successfully settled following mediation.
