James is a banking and finance lawyer with a focus on regulatory compliance work and asset financing (involving aircraft and ships). He also has experience in lending, mergers and acquisitions, as well as a niche practice in high value superyachts.

James regularly advises clients on issues regarding regulation and compliance (particularly those relating to the SFC), money lending, data privacy and more recently, navigating the SFC's virtual assets regime. In this regard, he has represented several high-profile securities brokerage firms, insurance brokerage firms, fund houses, money lenders and large banks. He has assisted several such firms on revamping their standard form documentation.

James also advises multi-national banks and leasing companies in their aviation and ship financing transactions (including lending, refinancing, obtaining security, and discharging security) with airline and shipping corporate lessees respectively.

James also advises financial institutions and family businesses on general lending, mergers and acquisitions, and property acquisitions.

James has also developed a niche practice in high value superyachts, having represented a range of individuals and companies in their sale and purchase of a yacht and advising them on related regulatory matters.

James is a native English and Cantonese speaker and is also fluent in Mandarin.
