Ian has significant multi-sector experience (including real estate, hospitality, leisure & retail, financial services, automotive and healthcare).

He has worked extensively on business turnarounds and both creditor and debtor led restructurings. He regularly acts for lenders, distressed investment funds, insolvency practitioners, trade creditors, landlords, directors, sponsors and foreign lawyers.

Ernst & Young

Advising Ernst & Young in their capacity as administrators of Flybe, Europe's largest domestic airline. Dealing, in particular, with the fleet issues including negotiating with the numerous lessors and financiers in respect of the servicing, maintenance and ultimate return of all leased and financed aircraft and engines.

Redde Northgate plc

Advising Redde Northgate plc on its pre-pack administration acquisition of certain businesses and certain assets of Nationwide Accident Repair Centre.

Adena Brands

Advising Adena Brands on its pre-pack administration acquisition of the businesses and certain assets of international UK-headquartered high street fashion retailers Monsoon and Accessorize.

ATR Holdings

Advising ATR Holdings its acquisition of Antler Luggage’s e-commerce and wholesale distribution businesses from administrators following a period of trading in administration.

European retail and services business

Advising a European retail and services business' board of directors in respect of its trading through the pandemic including directors’ duties advice and co-ordinating cross jurisdictional support for the group.

Distressed investment fund

Advising a family office-backed UK distressed investment fund, on a number of debt and equity investments, including urgent bridge financings and acquisitions of distressed businesses in both the healthcare and education sectors.

Real estate credit fund

Advising UK real estate credit fund on its credit bid acquisition of a 190,000ft2 mixed use development site in central London.  The acquisition involved an application on an urgent basis to the Jersey courts seeking a “blessing” order approving the transaction and confirming that the Security Trustee had satisfied its statutory duties upon enforcement of the Jersey share security and the subsequent sale to the fund. 

Toys R Us Inc.

Advising the Official Unsecured Creditors Committee of Toys R Us Inc. as special counsel in respect of the effects of the UK company's company voluntary arrangement (and its subsequent failure) on the US business and its suppliers.
