George is an associate with Stephenson Harwood's Piraeus office. He works with our shipping finance team, acting mainly for banks, financial institutions and ship-owning groups advising them on cross border financing transactions. George is qualified in Greece and England & Wales.

George specialises in ship finance transactions and acts for major Greek and international banks, financial institutions and ship-owning groups in multimillion cross-border asset finance transactions. He advises on a wide range of transactions, including without limitation, sale and purchase of newbuilding and second-hand vessels, syndicated, bilateral and revolving facilities, sale and leaseback transactions, refinancing and restructuring of existing facilities, SOFR transitions, assignment of loans, incorporation of companies under Liberian and Marshall Islands Law and establishing of Greek offices for foreign shipping companies in Greece under Law 89/67.

Debt financing - lender's work

Advising major Greek bank in relation to a US$18,6 million secured term loan facility extended to a NYSE listed company for the purposes of refinancing existing indebtedness over a vessel and providing the Group with liquidity for capital working purposes.

Acting in relation to a US$60,000,000 secured loan facility provided to a NYSE listed company for the purposes of refinancing existing indebtedness over eight LPG vessels and for working capital purposes.

Advising major European bank in relation to a US$20,000,000 revolving credit facility to a NYSE listed company for the purposes of refinancing certain existing indebtedness and for capital working purposes. 

Advising a Greek bank in relation to a US$44 million secured term loan facility extended to a Greek shipping Group for the purposes of refinancing existing indebtedness and financing part of the acquisition cost of a second-hand vessel. 

Acting for a Norwegian bank in connection with a US$60 million secured loan agreement provided to a high profile shipping Group based in London for the purposes of refinancing certain existing indebtedness and for financing part of the acquisition of two second-hand vessels.

Debt financing - owner's work

Acting for and advising major Greek ship-owning group in connection with a US$84,125,000 secured loan agreement for the purposes of refinancing existing indebtedness and for financing part of the acquisition cost of two second-hand vessels.

Assignments of loan facilities

Acting for Dutch bank, as assignee bank, in connection with the assignment of certain secured term loan facilities of an aggregate amount of US$103,200,000 and transfer of related security documents, that formed part of major European bank's portfolio of ship loans with relevant shipping groups.

LIBOR transition

Advising an international financial institution (and others for same context) in transitioning its shipping portfolios (equal to $130,000,000) to SOFR as a result of the discontinuation of LIBOR.

Ships

Advising leading financial institutions on debt and equity financing for all types of vessels.

Sale and purchase of vessels

Acting for buyers and sellers in multimillion S&P transactions and assisting other SH offices in closing meetings.

Newbuilding – Post delivery financing

Advising major French bank in relation to a US$20,000,000 secured loan agreement for the purpose of financing part of the acquisition cost of a new-building bulk carrier.
