His experience in the aviation sector includes leading commercial and export credit agency guaranteed financings, portfolio sales, leases, lease novations, refinancings and Japanese operating leases. He has advised banks, lessors and airlines on various aspects of aircraft financing and leasing transactions involving multiple jurisdictions.
In recent years, Clement has advised a syndicate of banks on the financing of two new A321 aircraft to be operated by a Vietnamese airline, a German bank on the Japanese Operating Leases (JOL) financing of an A320 aircraft and an A319 aircraft operated by a Spanish airline, a French bank on the financing of two new A320 aircraft to be operated by an Indian airline, Lion Air Group and its subsidiaries on its aircraft fleet portfolio restructuring and transfers and a Philippine airline on the Japanese Operating Leases with Call Option (JOLCO) financing of new A321 aircraft.
Of particular value is Clement's ability to advise on, negotiate and execute the hedging aspects of aviation finance transactions which is unique to the industry. He has over a decade of experience advising on ISDA Master Agreements and other derivative agreements, including advising various lenders and borrowers on interest rate swap and cross currency swaps, a global energy and commodity group on gold derivatives and a leading energy provider on energy and carbon derivatives.
