Beth is a senior associate in the intellectual property team at Stephenson Harwood with a particular focus on contentious matters across the full intellectual property spectrum.
  • Profile

Beth has significant litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience. She has acted on complex cases before the English High Court (including the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court), the Court of Appeal, the UK Intellectual Property Office and the General Court of the European Union.

In the last few years, Beth has acted for the claimant in Parainen Pearl Shipping Ltd and others v Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Skipsrederi AS and others [2018] EWHC 2628 (Pat), successfully arguing that the defendant’s patent rights had been exhausted by the sale of a vessel containing a repaired pneumatic cement discharging system. Beth has also acted for GlaxoSmithKline in non-traditional trade mark infringement proceedings before the English High Court, for Jack Wills in design right infringement and breach of confidence proceedings brought by Superdry in the English High Court and for a leading turbine cleaner manufacturer in a trade mark infringement and passing off dispute in the English High Court and the UK IPO as well as proceedings in Canada, Germany and the European Patent Office. Beth has also appeared in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court on a copyright and design right infringement and breach of contract dispute. In parallel to her litigation work, Beth has acted for clients in alternative dispute resolution proceedings.

On the non-contentious side, Beth advises on the licensing and assignment of IPR. Recently, she has worked on a video footage licence and the IP aspects of a film distribution agreement for a global fashion brand.

"Associates Beth Williams and Anne Stoffels have great attention to detail, which can be very critical in an IP case, and both take a very thorough and detailed approach to their cases."
