Angus is an associate in the marine and international trade department.  He has experience across a wide and varied range of shipping legal issues, with a focus on dry shipping disputes.

Angus represents shipowners, charterers, P&I clubs, managers, cargo interests and their insurers in relation to claims under charterparties, bills of lading, sale contracts and shipbuilding contracts.

He has particular experience of operating in the English High Court and in LMAA and ad hoc arbitration.

Builder’s warranty

Represented a large shipowner in a claim against the shipbuilder for breach of warranty, following a steering gear failure while transiting the Suez Canal.

Shipbuilders’ claims

Assisted in defending a ship owning client in six High Court actions concerning shipbuilders’ claims against them under a number of shipbuilding contracts and payment deferral agreements.

Shipowners’ claims

Represented a large yard in defending claims brought by the owners of three vessels following tank cracking in one vessel during the warranty period.

Agency agreement

Acted for a large ship owning company in a claim against their local agents for alleged fraud in withholding sums due and presenting fraudulent invoices.

Enforcement

Assisted in enforcing an Italian judgment in England against a yacht owners’ hull and machinery underwriters under the Brussels Regulation.

Coroner’s inquest

Assisted in representing a boiler manufacturer at a coroner’s inquest following an explosion and death on board a vessel at the port of Felixstowe.

Early redelivery

Assisted the owners of three chemical tankers in recovering damages for their early redelivery from long term time charters.

Containership fire

Represented slot charterers in respect of a major containership fire and the ensuing legal issues and cargo claims.

Unsafe port

Acted on behalf of shipowners and their hull and machinery underwriters in an unsafe port claim against charterers following damage to the vessel on leaving a port in India.
