Ian is a real estate partner and head of the wealth management group in Greater China. Ian has been a partner at Stephenson Harwood since 1988.
Ian has a wide range of experience of advising individuals and families in Hong Kong on a variety of issues ranging from preparing wills to setting up complex trust structures to achieve families’ succession and estate planning objectives.
He has experience in all property related transactions, including advising on acquisitions and dispositions of property (residential, commercial and industrial) in Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China, acting for both listed and private companies in joint developments, acquisitions, sales by way of tender, public auction and private treaty, financing arrangements and leases.
Holding an LLB from the London School of Economics and Political Science, Ian qualified as a solicitor in London prior to joining SH (Hong Kong) in 1982. He became a partner of SH (Hong Kong) in 1988 and of SH (London) in 1996.
He is ranked as a Leading Individual by Chambers Asia for real estate.
Ian has extensive experience of advising individuals, families and family offices on the setting up of trust structures, preparing wills for individuals, as well as charity advisory services.
Ian has extensive experience in all property related transactions. Recent transactions include acting for multinational banks and financial institutions in review of leases in Grade A offices and acting for a French bank on renewal of Grade A office leases on 5 floors.
Ian’s real estate development experience includes advising on the establishment of joint venture of KPL and Shangri-La Asia for the acquisition, holding and development of land in Laobian district, Yingkou city, Liaoning province, PRC; acting for liquidators of Swiss Air in disposing of real estate in Hong Kong; and acting for a developer on acquisition of land and disposal of over 100 units during the construction period and after the completion of construction of the building.
Ian acts for banks and financial institutions on real estate related financing and other securities.
