Finance practice boosted by new partners in Asia

13 May 2010

International law firm Stephenson Harwood has promoted two new partners bringing the firm's total partnership to 102. The firm has strengthened its finance practice with the appointment of Gregg Johnston in Singapore to the London partnership, with effect from 1 May 2010, and Stephanie Wong to the Hong Kong partnership. The date of Stephanie's appointment will be confirmed after approval is obtained from the Hong Kong Law Society to amend her practising certificate.

Commenting on the new partner promotions, Sharon White, Chief Executive said:

"Both Gregg and Stephanie are highly talented individuals who have contributed significantly to the international development of the firm. These promotions, together with the appointment of ten lateral hires over the last financial year, reflect our focus on building scale across key practice areas."

The appointments in detail:

Gregg Johnston – Finance Group

Gregg joined Stephenson Harwood in London as a trainee in 2000 and has been a member of the firm's Finance Group based in Singapore since 2002. He was made a local partner in May 2008.

Gregg specialises in asset finance with a particular expertise in shipping and offshore finance in Asia. Gregg's clients include major international banks, ship owners, leasing companies and shipping and investment funds.

In addition to asset finance work, Gregg also regularly advises clients on ship sale and purchase matters, joint ventures, charter parties and new building projects.

Stephanie Wong – Finance, Hong Kong

Stephanie's practice covers a broad spectrum of finance work with emphasis on secured and unsecured transactional work and particularly acquisition, real estate, commodity and ship finance covering Hong Kong, Mainland China and South East Asia.  Stephanie's appointment will strengthen the Greater China offices' development in these areas of practice.

Stephanie joined Stephenson Harwood in June 2008 as a senior associate from DLA Piper where she advised and acted for various banks and financial institutions in a wide range of banking transactions.

Stephanie was admitted in Hong Kong in 1995 and in England & Wales in 1997.  Prior to joining the legal profession, Stephanie worked as a bank officer with a number of foreign investment banks, where she was actively involved in various syndicated loans, structured financing and capital market transactions.
