On the contentious ship finance side, Mike represents leading ship finance banks in a wide array of disputes arising from both pre and post-delivery finance.

Obtaining a nine-figure arbitration award for a leading ship finance bank against a defaulting shipyard.

Advising on the arrest and sale of two vessels for a major ship finance bank in connection against Iranian interests. The arrest and sale took place in China.

Advised on the enforcement of security against share pledges for a major ship finance bank. Our advice resulted in a 100% recovery of the bank’s multi-million dollar claim.

Advising a major trader in relation to their acquisition of two newbuild bulk carriers including advice on the underlying shipbuild contracts and long term charter arrangements.

Advised a Dutch bank with regard to a facility in excess of £100 million to assist in financing two offshore vessels under construction at a shipyard in Spain. This was an exceedingly complex financing involving both junior and senior lenders and two ECAs.
 
Advised a UK bank with enforcement of its security for lending following the failure of a shipyard to complete construction of three high specification offshore vessels.

Advised a UK bank in a US$200 million dispute involving a major restructuring of a shipping company which was contracted to build two offshore support vessels at a shipyard. The construction of the vessels was severely delayed due to contractual disputes between the borrower and builder.
