Guijun is a senior manager specializing in shipping, insurance, shipbuilding, international trade and letter of credit related dispute resolution (including mediation). He is well-known for handling bills of lading, charterparties, collisions, salvage, oil pollution, cargo claims, sales contracts, shipbuilding contracts, disputes under marine insurance policies and letter of credit disputes. Guijun’s capability is not only limited to Hong Kong and the PRC but also in Singapore, London and other major jurisdictions, he regularly acts for clients in shipping and trading dispute arbitrations in Hong Kong, Singapore, London and before ICC. He has acted for clients in various Lloyd’s salvage arbitrations.

His clients include banks, commodity traders, shipyards, shipowners, managers and operators, charterers, P&I insurers and marine and liability underwriters, particularly those in the PRC. As “a popular individual in the market, particularly for shipping, insurance and letter of credit-related litigation work.”, he also represents foreign clients in litigation before the PRC courts (including letter of credit disputes and enforcement of foreign arbitration awards in the PRC).

After receiving a BSc from Dalian Maritime University in 1982 and a LLM and PhD from the University of Southampton in 1987 and 1991 respectively, Guijun began his legal career in Hong Kong in 1991 and joined Stephenson Harwood as PRC Affairs Legal Director in 1996. Guijun has been ranked as a leading individual by Chambers Asia in shipping litigation.

Guijun has extensive experience in acting for clients in casualty investigation and handling, cargo claims, disputes involving charterparties or bills of lading.

He has particular experience in assisting clients involved in shipping disputes in the PRC.

Guijun regularly acts for underwriters (including hull and machinery, cargo and liability underwriters) in matters relating to disputes under marine policies or logistics liability policies.

Guijun regularly acts for clients in shipping and shipbuilding dispute arbitrations in Hong Kong, Singapore, London and ICC arbitrations. He frequently acts for clients in Lloyd’s salvage arbitrations.

Guijun also acts for international traders in litigation/arbitration relating to international trading contract disputes.
