Duncan has many years of experience advising shipyards, buyers and financiers on shipbuilding and off-shore construction projects, including dispute resolution and arbitration, where he enjoys a leading reputation. He has been involved in some of the biggest shipbuilding arbitrations to have been heard in London. His experience covers all kinds of vessels and offshore structures.
Duncan advises those involved in the offshore sector on contract negotiation, (including the negotiation of COAs and specialist charterparties), dispute resolution and vessel construction disputes.
Duncan advises shipowners and charterers, both directly and through their P&I and Defence Clubs on disputes arising under contracts for the carriage of goods, including claims relating to damage to and shortage and mis-delivery of wet and dry cargoes, speed and consumption, and off-hire. Recently, Duncan has been involved in handling claims arising out of the threat and incidence of piracy off the coast of Somalia. He has been widely quoted in the press (both in the UK and abroad) on this subject and has been interviewed on BBC TV national news to explain the legal issues involved.
Duncan is an acknowledged specialist in handling disputes arising under shipbuilding contracts and contracts for the construction of oil rigs and other offshore structures.

He has been involved in a large number of complex enforcements involving numerous vessels of all kinds in jurisdictions around the world, including vessel repossessions, the arrest and sale of vessels through the Court, private sales, the pursuing of insolvency proceedings and the enforcement of personal and corporate guarantees.
