Each year, Chambers & Partners, the global legal directory business, compiles a top '100' ranking, profiling the lawyers which its researchers believe stand out from the international and sector directories that they compile. This year, John Fordham, head of the litigation practice group, and Tony Woodcock, head of the regulatory litigation practice at international law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP have been included in the ranking.
John Fordham was noted in particular for his commercial awareness and efficiency and responsiveness. A client commented that he is: "efficient and straightforward to deal with. He has a wealth of experience coupled with commercial pragmatism." Another client added that he possesses "exactly the right gravitas to get clients and lawyers alike to really consider their options, and thus he brings parties together."
Tony Woodcock was noted for his communication skills and commercial awareness. Client feedback included: "he's seen it all in the financial services regulatory field, from defending insider-trading charges to getting new chief executives past their authorisation interviews." In addition Tony is "a fantastically smooth and experienced operator for financial services work" and "he has an unparalleled grasp of the world of financial regulation and decades of experience. His judgement is unerring."
The '100' profiles lawyers who excel in and exemplify both technical legal ability and client service. In particular, the researchers looked for outstanding service across: communication skills, commercial awareness, efficiency and responsiveness, industry knowledge and insight into the client business. The individuals chosen were already ranked in Bands One or Two or as 'Star Individuals' in a key area of business law in a Chambers guide and further research on each individual was then undertaken, including additional client feedback.
