Law firm Stephenson Harwood LLP is strengthening its practice in Greater China with the arrival of partner Allen Shyu, and his team, from Troutman Sanders in Beijing on 1 April 2018.

"The addition of a lawyer of Allen's calibre, along with the experience of his team, represents an important landmark in the development of our practice in Greater China," said Stephenson Harwood CEO Sharon White. "The team adds new expertise to our existing practices in the region, and enables us to enhance the service we provide our clients there."

Mr Shyu, who launched Troutman Sanders' Beijing office in 2012, advises clients on capital markets transactions and regulatory issues, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and private equity matters. In recent years, Mr Shyu has worked on numerous transactions for mid- and large-sized Chinese public companies, handling the securities aspects of global public offerings, and advised in relation to equity-linked securities for companies active throughout Asia.

"Allen and his team bring a wealth of knowledge and experience at a time when demand for capital markets expertise across Greater China is growing," said Voon Keat Lai, Stephenson Harwood's Greater China managing partner. "This strategic move gives us an opportunity to better serve domestic and international clients conducting business across the region. In particular, Allen's long track-record in capital markets transactions will bring a new dimension to our capabilities in the region."

The team, which includes 11 fee-earners, has significant expertise advising across the full range of corporate law.

Stephenson Harwood's lawyers have been supporting clients in Greater China, and international companies doing business there, since 1979 when it was one of the first UK headquartered law firms to open an office in Hong Kong. The firm currently has 250 people located across the region in offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai, and in Guangzhou, through associated firm Stephenson Harwood Wei Tu (China).
