Stephenson Harwood partner Stuart Frith has been appointed the new president of R3, the insolvency and restructuring trade body. Frith's year-long term starts on Friday 20 April.

R3 is the trade association for the UK’s insolvency, restructuring, advisory and turnaround professionals, and represents insolvency practitioners, lawyers, turnaround and restructuring experts, and others in the profession. Members are qualified, regulated and work across the profession, from global firms to smaller, local practices.

Frith is an insolvency and restructuring specialist who has been operating in this area for more than 30 years. As an R3 member, he has been closely involved with R3’s policy and technical committees, as well as previously acting as chair of the personal insolvency committee. He sits on R3’s Council and, over the last year, served as R3’s vice-president. He is also a Deputy Judge dealing with cases in the Insolvency and Companies List in the Business and Property Courts of the Chancery Division, a position he has held since 2007.

"The UK has a world-class insolvency and restructuring framework, and I’m very honoured to have the opportunity to represent my fellow professionals who work within it," said Stuart Frith. "R3 plays a vital role in promoting, developing and supporting the insolvency and restructuring profession. As president, I want to ensure members feel that R3 represents them, whatever their background; and that the insolvency and restructuring profession itself is diverse."

Stephenson Harwood's global restructuring and insolvency practice is a multi-jurisdictional team of lawyers who advise a wide array of stakeholders on all issues arising in connection with financial distress. The team's work covers all sectors, and encompasses domestic and international debt restructurings, schemes of arrangement, CVAs, administrations (including pre-packs), receiverships, liquidations, personal bankruptcy, insolvency litigation and investigations, fraud and asset tracing, refinancings, workouts and turnaround strategies, debt for equity swaps, distressed M&A, distressed investing and loan to own strategies.
