Employment alert email
We updated you on 3 March 2014
, about delays to the Government's plan to extend the right to make flexible working requests to all employees with 26 weeks' continuous service.
The Children and Families Act 2014 has now received royal assent. From today, Monday 30 June onwards all employees with sufficient service can make a flexible working request, regardless of their personal circumstances. There is still no right for any employee to work flexibly, only a right to request to do so. Employees can only make one formal flexible working request in any 12-month period.
A new set of rules - the Flexible Working Regulations 2014 - will apply for requests made from 30 June. Employers need to follow a reasonable process when considering flexible working requests and will have up to three months to make their decision. ACAS has published a new code of practice
and guidance on flexible working requests, which employers should endeavour to follow.
