Welcome to the November edition of our Data Protection update, our monthly bulletin on key developments in data protection law.
In this issue, we consider the development of data protection regimes in Asia in light of the much delayed entry into force of Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. We also look at a recent case involving a private investigation company, used by well-known organisations, which used illegal "blaggers" to obtain personal data in order to trace individuals.
We look at the ICO's activity since our last update, outlining a recent fine and a recently overturned ICO decision.
We also consider the latest fine issued to Google, this time in the USA, for data protection breaches.
Finally, we provide our regular update on the draft EU Data Protection Regulation, focusing this month on commentary arising after the vote on 21 October 2013 by the European Parliament on its position on the European Commission's proposals.
