We are well known in North Africa and our work in this area is supported by the members in our group from all our offices. Our partners have years of experience advising clients based in and investing into North Africa and we have strong working relationships with leading lawyers across the region. This allows us to provide advice set against a background of in-depth local knowledge.

Our clients include listed and private companies, financial institutions, high-net-worth individuals, investment companies, private equity houses, governments and state-owned entities.

Misappropriation of assets from the Arab Republic of Egypt

Advising and managing the global tracing and recovery of approximately US$ billions in misappropriated assets by the former regime. Involving allegations of fraud, corruption and money laundering over nine jurisdictions.

Qalaa Holdings, largest private equity house in North Africa

Advising on various transactions including providing English law advice regarding the sale of a float glass plant established in Egypt, to Saudi Construction Products Holding Company for US$118 million.

Government of Libya

Advised on the re-drafting of Libyan laws with the Libyan Legal Framework International Committee and advised on free trade agreement negotiations with the EU.

Libyan Arab Airlines, Buraq Air and other Libyan carriers

Advised various Libyan airlines on a number of high value commercial disputes, arbitrations and leasing and purchasing transactions. We achieved the first removal (Buraq Air) from the EU airline blacklist.

Various interests in Libya

Advised various interests in Libya (and Gambia) on competition, sanctions and export related issues.

UK hedge fund

Advised a UK hedge fund on complex international issues involving Libyan sanctions adopted at national and international level.

Joint venture in Libya

Advising an international civil engineering joint venture on its bid for a number of projects for the design, build and installation of utilities and other infrastructure services in Libya.
