Simon is a competition lawyer with wide experience of a number of industries and international transactions, both at a UK and an EU level, as well as other jurisdictions around the world. He has worked in London, Paris and Brussels and has recent experience at the UK competition authorities.

Areas of expertise include merger control, antitrust investigations, market investigations, general behavioural issues and compliance. Simon has particular expertise in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, power, fast-moving consumer goods, and financial services. He has worked on high-profile multi-jurisdictional merger filings as well as investigations into alleged anti-competitive behaviour. He has researched and written articles in leading competition law journals and has contributed to a leading textbook on EU merger control.

Cartels

Defending a company in the freight forwarding sector in multiple cartel investigations before the European Commission and other international competition authorities, including making successful leniency applications. 

Advised clients at various stages of antitrust investigations, including discovery of an infringement, conducting internal investigations, the leniency process, cooperation with competition authorities, and the potential application of criminal sanctions, including extradition from the UK to foreign jurisdictions, involving principles of 'dual criminality.

Merger control

Advising one of the largest US industrial groups on its acquisition of a French competitor's power and energy business, successfully obtaining clearances in multiple jurisdictions across the world.

Advising several incumbent and prospective UK rail franchise operators on the merger control and competition aspects arising in relation to bids and awards of UK rail franchises, direct awards and concessions, including dealings with the UK's Competition and Markets Authority.

Advising Vistra Group on its acquisition of the Jordans Group from The West of England Trust Limited, including obtaining Phase I clearance from the Cypriot Commission for the Protection of Competition. The Vistra Group is one of the world's leading corporate service providers of international incorporations, trust, fiduciary and fund administration services. The Jordans Group is a leading provider of UK formation services, corporate and commercial legal expertise and compliance services.

Advising Acadia Healthcare on the acquisition of Priory Group, a leading provider of behavioural healthcare facilities in the United Kingdom, including carrying out an initial assessment of the potential competition law issues arising out of the transaction.
